Position Title: Vessel Apprentice Engineer

Position Type: Full-time, Training Role

Location: USA Nationwide (must be able to travel to St Louis, MO; Cairo, IL; Memphis, TN; Baton Rouge, LA; Harahan, LA; or Houston, TX)

Schedule: 28 days onboard/ 28 off the vessel

The Vessel Apprentice Engineer Training Program offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in developing their skills and knowledge in marine engineering. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience and training in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of the vessel's main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, and various systems. Successful candidates will undergo comprehensive training under the guidance of experienced engineers to prepare them for future roles within our organization.

What you will be doing... YourIMPACT

  • Learn and actively participate in maintaining the engine room log as instructed.
  • Receive training in preventive and routine maintenance procedures for all equipment onboard.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the engine room under the guidance of the Training Engineer.
  • Keep a log of mastered training items (TEAR) for tracking progress.
  • Attend classroom and online training sessions as required for skill development.
  • Work in a training capacity, following instructions from the Training Engineer to complete assigned tasks.

What we are looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Mechanical, electrical, and HVAC experience is preferred .
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain required Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

  • Ability to manage maintenance inventory efficiently.
  • Proficiency in maintaining written logs.
  • Basic computer skills, including email communication.
  • Capability to comprehend written maintenance manuals and technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently, schedule maintenance tasks, and ensure system upkeep.
  • Meet minimum physical agility requirements for the position.
  • Readiness to respond to emergency situations and work until the vessel is safely under control.
  • Willingness to sign an Engineer in Training Agreement.
  • Ability to work 28 days onboard and 28 off schedule with willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to your assigned Vessel River Port.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Cannot have any current pending criminal charges or be on probation.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Adhere to all ACBL policies, United States Coast Guard (USCG) and environmental regulations.

Even better if you have:

  • Degree from a mechanic/engineering trade/tech school or university
  • Previous deckhand experience on inland rivers is a plus but not required.
