Our Georgia-Pacific mill in Zachary, LA has an opportunity for an Electrical Reliability Technician. This position will provide an opportunity for an individual to utilize their technical, long-term planning, troubleshooting and coordination skills to improve the reliability of our electrical systems. This position pays $38.87 per hour (including vacation and benefits). The tech supports both a Monday through Friday shift 7-3:30 & the rotating 12 hour shift. Rotating shifts are 5:30-5:30 4 on 4 off with 2 days/2 nights each shift.


Our Team

Located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA, the Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern and Brawny. The paper machines are state of the art for manufacturing of premium tissue paper. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away. There is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do

*Manage and improve our motor testing reliability plan, troubleshoot motor/drive issues.

*Work with Motor shops on rebuilds and RCAs.

*Manage and improve our IR switchgear inspection program.

*Manage spare motor inventory, asset strategy and needs.

*Responsible for developing and executing our asset strategies for our transformers, switchgear, breaker testing, OM-15 work.

*Integral in electrical reroute work/capital work in the future.

*Develop and implement PMs to improve our electrical reliability, make them meaningful and value-creating.

*Provide technical support to maintenance for precision repairs

*Lead unplanned event recovery and follow-up, assist with troubleshooting.

*Research and eliminate repetitive electrical, instrument and drive issues/failures.

*Grow your expertise in the systems and equipment we have onsite by leveraging GP corporate Center of Excellence resources, other corporate technical SMEs and vendor training.

*Critical leader of Electrical Safety Work Practices

*Share knowledge and build knowledge in our electrical craftspeople.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

*7 or more years of practical experience working on electrical reliability within a manufacturing, industrial or military environment

*Experience using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel and Outlook

*Experience with electrical drives, motor testing and power distribution

*Experience using analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot


What Will Put You Ahead

*Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field

*Experience testing motors/IR scans and evaluating those results.

*Experience with RCA and problem solving processes on electrical events

*Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical and controls systems.

*Experience working with rockwell drives, delta-V DCS, Allen-Bradly PLCs or instrumentation expertise.

*Electrical Journeyman license, NCCER in industrial electrical, or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP)

*Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

*10 or more years of electrical reliability experience in manufacturing, industrial or military environment

*Experience with pulp and paper manufacturing technology and systems

*Experience with systems Including: Three phase power distribution, 480V three phase motors with variable frequency drive configurations, AC/DC drives and motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs)

*Predictive Maintenance certifications in motor testing, infrared, vibration or ultrasound.

This role is part of the collective bargaining agreement and the starting pay for this role is set at $38.87. per hour.
