Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Facility Manager is responsible for overall operations and financial results of one or more Hospital, Medical, and Infectious Waste Incinerator (HMIWI) facilities. This individual will collaboratively work with multiple groups including, but not limited to: Sales, Customer Service, Accounting, Transportation, Safety, and Environmental Compliance ensuring that all safety, regulatory, and customer issues affecting each location are promptly addressed. This person will also ensure that each facility meets or exceeds its goals as it pertains to Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), Regulatory Compliance, Revenue Growth, Budget Control, Customer Service, and Continuous Improvement.

Key Job Activities:

1. Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient team of managers, supervisors, and plant workers: 

Makes every reasonable effort to select, train, and develop a qualified, diverse workforce. Establishes and routinely communicates performance standards and objectives; conducts performance appraisals annually, and more frequently as needed for Team Member Development. Recommends salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals. Monitors processes and team member performance and recommends, when necessary, changes in methods, procedures, structure, and additions or changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources. Counsels and coaches team members on educational and job opportunities and keeps staff informed of current problems, procedural/operational changes, and new developments in the department and Company. Administers and communicates all Company policies and procedures, communicates to staff, interprets as necessary, and ensures adherence to safety and compliance standards. Monitors and ensures that team members are performing their functions safely and productively. Monitors department work productivity, reports on trends, and recommends and implements changes to continually improve work productivity. Develops subordinate managers and/or supervisors, particularly in the management techniques of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling through continuous coaching and feedback. 

2. Reviews all applicable regulatory documentation (i.e., permit required performance testing, RATA testing, etc). Manages a database to include annual permit renewals, accidents and Worker’s Compensation records, etc. Establishes and maintains effective contact with state and local regulatory personnel and coordinates inspection and customer environmental tours.  In addition, ensures that operational and customer related functions are completed timely, accurately, and sufficiently to meet standards.  Meets with the key team members regularly to discuss and analyze reports with the goal of improving productivity and service.  Identifies inconsistencies and develops action plans consistent with Stericycle’s Customer 1st vision. 

3. Ensures continual focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and initiate Continuous Improvement Practices in all phases of the operation in order to achieve all production, safety, compliance, and financial/budgetary goals; Initiates actions to assure timely resolution of identified hazards or unsafe conditions and practices. Performs Root Cause Analyses and implements corrective actions when necessary.     

4. Provides financial forecasting and regularly reviews, analyzes, approves, and/or submits the following: Payroll registers-Ensure all overtime hours are necessary and all team members are working efficiently. A/P batches and expense reports – Monitor expenses and account for unexpected changes. Manage capital expense projects. Monthly expense review and reporting. Monthly revenue/volume reports.

5. Works with other facility managers and key support personnel in the identification, development, and review of best practices in facility operation, information gathering, and informational reporting.  

6. Ensures delivery of services through transportation, plant and customer service functions to enhance customer loyalty; Addresses issues that arise through customer feedback processes; Has thorough knowledge and understanding of permit requirements, CEMS rules, EPA, OSHA, DOT, and  ensures all locations have processes and controls implemented to ensure 100% compliance. Has a detailed understanding of all DOT regulations, including Vehicle Condition Report review and filing, and maintenance of Hours of Service Logs and collaborates with Transportation and Logistics teams to assure compliance; Performs other related duties and/or project work as required or requested.
