The role of Global Automation Engineer has been established to provide to the 450 engineers in Syngenta, knowledge leadership across a small number of disciplines that have been identified as key to ensure safety of operation of an asset base that exceeds $4.5bn and to the delivery of the capital projects that will average over $600m p.a.



Job Description
 

In the field of Automation and Controls:

  • Provide up to date and relevant expert technical knowledge and leadership in support of all Syngenta business units.
  • Seek out, identify, communicate and encourage examples of best practice from within and out with Syngenta.
  • Pro-actively support sites and business units to maintain technical capability at appropriate levels.

The Global Automation Principal Engineer is responsible for:

  • Designing and developing automation solutions that improve business processes, increase productivity, and reduce costs. This involves working with cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements, evaluate technology solutions, and design automated workflows that align with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Implementing automation projects across multiple locations, working closely with regional and local teams to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices. This includes overseeing the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of automation systems, as well as providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
  • Evaluating and selecting the best technology solutions for the company's automation needs. This involves staying up-to-date with the latest developments in automation technologies and tools, conducting market research, and collaborating with vendors to identify the best solutions that meet the company's requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, including safety standards, data security regulations, and quality standards, including developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for automation systems, and ensuring that all systems meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Developing and leading a global team of automation professionals, including involvement in hiring, training, and mentoring team members, providing guidance and direction to team members, setting performance goals and metrics and conducting performance reviews and evaluations.

Partnering with other departments within the organization, including operations, procurement, IT, finance, and R&D, to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions that improve business processes and drive efficiency where this involves building strong relationships with key stakeholders, communicating effectively, and managing cross-functional projects.



Qualifications
 

  • Minimum experience level : 7 to 15 years
  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Technical skills to develop fit for purpose engineering solutions 
  • Lead global change program 
  • Possible role in Basel or other regions in different business functions.  
  • Develop engineering strategy 
  • Functional leadership development
